The lucea project

LUCEA is an acronym which reminds us of grace: Loving Ukrainian Children, Enabling Action. As Christians, we understand that many times the desire rests within us to act and yet we need the enabling power of God to do what must be done. That is the attitude with which we are seeking to minister to those with special needs in Ukraine. It is our desire to help them do what neither the children nor their caregivers can do alone. The orphanage we are currently focused on has approximately 130 residents, some bedridden, others more mobile and higher-functioning. Grace to Ukraine is pursuing a long term relationship with this orphanage in the hopes of:
- helping children with special needs get the medical and therapeutic help they need,
-partnering with caregivers in obtaining the most up-to-date and effective means of caring for special needs children,
-creating awareness of the many orphaned and adoptable children in Ukraine with special needs , and
-bringing God's grace to the lives of these children through both practical and spiritual means.

We were able to have 2 large out door playpens built for the bedridden children so that in the warm months, they can go outside and breathe the fresh air. We saw some like these at another baby-house and asked our supporters to help us build them. They were delivered in october 2013 during our fall trip.
Disposable Diapers Delivered!

It has been a year since we began providing disposable diapers for the special needs orphanage. Thanks to our generous donors we have been able to provide even additional diapers and have not missed a single month of delivery. Our missionary partners in Ukraine deliver the diapers each month.
The Angel Tree

Due to overwhelming support, we raised enough funds through the Angel Tree to pay for waterproof mattress covers for the special needs orphanage in 2013. You also gave enough for us provide Christmas gifts to the orphanage during Christmas 2012. From the Ferdons, missionaries in Lugansk: "We went to the special needs orphanage on Saturday. We did not get to see any of the kids because many of the kids are sick there. The ladies (on staff) were so blessed by the gifts as nobody has ever given them gifts. We (had also) made up 25 gift bags (fruit, hats, and gloves) for the "adult" special needs people there, and we left the fruit and candy for the kids." They also took white lab coats and scrubs that had been donated by Ukraine Medical Outreach. What a blessing! We are now raising money for Christmas 2013.
